Help - sick 1986 5kcstq

  The wife apparently angered the Audi Gods, resulting in the 1986 5kcstq 
  quitting in the middle of a railroad crossing.  She pushed it off the 
  crossing and rolled it down the other side before a train came.  
  
  She was able to restart the engine, but then it bogged down several times 
  and finally quit several miles later.
  
  There were no fault codes when I checked (i.e., 4444)
  
  The car would start and run several seconds and then die as if running 
  out of fuel.  I decided that this was indicating it was running only with 
  fuel from the cold start valve, so I unplugged that and the car then 
  would not start at all.  So, apparently there is not fuel injection 
  happening except for the cold start.
  
  I have not had a chance to pursue this any further yet.
  
  Any suggestions where to begin?
