CD changer info needed

I was recently told that very early audi(USA models)
oem cd changers work through the car's antenna and are
controlled with a remote in or near the center console,
rather than being controlled through the actual radio
itself (much like today's after market units which work
through the antenna by means of an FM modulator). My
questions are has anyone seen this system, can it work
with my 1988 80q's original oem radio , and if so does
anyone know where I could find this?  I prefer to have
this changer so I can keep up with the car's
originality.
