Re: horn ring lube

If a layer of grease is between the ring and the wiper of the horn ring and
if that grease is non-conductive and in full contact with both sides of the
junction there is no pathway for a low voltage signal to pass. 12 volts is
low voltage. This particular grease apparently provides that pathway for a
short distance. I have no idea what might be in it but it was expensive
enough that just enough to lube the horn button came in a small plastic
pouch with perhaps 1/2 ml capacity. You don't buy a grease gun tube of the
stuff.

To wit: I had a non-functioning horn button. I pulled the wheel, applied
"dielectric" grease to the ring/wiper. No other cleaning abrasion, etc was
done. Put it all back together and the horn button immediately started
functioning as needed.

Mike suggests that it has properties which permit short distance
conductivity but longer range insulating properties. Well... As the
shepherd says, "Ewe got me".

BTW, I hear that some of our eastern panhandle (WV) sheep farmers have
discovered a new use for sheep. Wool. :-)
