OK, here's an irrelevant data point...when I bought a used Snapper 
"Comet" riding mower and talked with the dealer about 
maintenance, he said the manufacturer sez not to use synthetic in 
it.  Why?  Reduced friction would allow it to rev too high.

HAH!!  Another good reason to run it in the ol' automobubble.
