I had the same discussion with the 'tire guy' about the
RE71s. "Good tire in its day, tire technology overtook
it."
This was when I was replacing 225/45/17 RE71s with
225/45/17 Toyo T1+ Proxys.

Today, the RE71 is a cheap performance tire which does
grip, but not very quiet on a car like the A4. 

I used RE71-Rs (still on the racecar)... a superb tire
for autoxing, but compare that tire to a Gforce or even
old BGF R1s, the old Bridgestone is very outclassed.
