Inner tie rod replacement '94 VW Golf / No Audi Content

This is my first post to the Quattro list, and although I know I am running
a risk by posting a question about a non-Audi car here, I figured I wouldn't
get flamed too bad. But, in any case, flame away. I also figured that you
guys would be the best ones to ask this question of. Furthermore, my car
does have VW / Audi logos on it. (That does count for something doesn't
it?)

I've got play in the left front wheel when the vehicle is up on the lift.
The outer tie rod appears all right, as when the play happens, the outer tie
rod remains rigid. Therefore, I am assuming the problem is the inner tie
rod end. I was wondering how much of a job this would be to replace myself,
and what I would need to do it. I've never worked on the front end of the
car at such a low level save for the typical maintenance stuff.

Comments appreciated.

Some may wonder how I know about this list and why I'm posting to it. Just
sold my '99 A4 2.8Q after only owning it for about 6 months. Bought my
friend's VW golf as a hold-over car until the arrival of... <drum roll>...

2000 S4.

October, November. Can't wait.

Thanks a bunch...
