Rust Free?

Audi Guys,

As I read this great list, I keep seeing "double galvanized" and "rust free
cars," etc. What gives? I used to own a '86 4kcsq. When did all this
corrosion protection really start? This little beauty was a great car, but
rust free it was not! I got it with little rust spots on it mostly in the
rear around the wheel wells and along the top of the rear bumper below the
trunk lid. Nothing drastic, but I was surprised to read that these cars are
supposed to be rust free. Info?

On another subject, I recently asked about a '81 5000 S Diesel and am still
getting responses both positive and negative (mostly negative). I failed to
mention that the present diesel has thrown a rod, hence the thoughts of
transfering to a gas engine. And yes it was corroding quite a bit on the
drivers side doors and quarter panels. However, I did stumble on another 5000
just yesterday. A friend of mine has one in his front yard with tall grass
all around. My curiosity wouldn't leave me alone and so I talked to him about
it. Seems that something is "draining the battery" so he drove it once and it
died and it has been sitting ever since. Says that his wife's parents used
to own it and he didn't really know what he was going to do with it. It has a
gas engine and he said it runs well. I don't even know what year it is, but
he said that I could take the battery down and have it charged and take it for
a spin and see if it is worth messing with. Needless to say, I'm pretty
excited! Is there something wrong with me? I mean really, getting excited
about a beautifully engineered german sedan.

More as I find out, and thanks for your time.
