RE: non-Audi: Euro-Fords in US was Re: First Wave...
In the 80's they sent XR4ti's here (the 2 door 'double spoiler'
sport job) also from
overseas, followed by the 4 door Scorpio. Neither of which was too
much of a hit with
the morons who would rather have a Mustang or Taurus than a 'damn
furrin car', so
didn't last long...
... funny you should mention this ... I just happened to be talking
to a coworker (who is waiting for his '91 T-bird SC to return from an engine
and SC replacement!) about a very similar subject yesterday ...
It just so happens that I was looking for a new car back in the
mid-80s and while I never tested the XR4ti I did drive its cousin the
Mustang SVO along with a standard 5-liter Mustang. While there was no
dispute that the European Ford was a much more refined automobile, that
5-liter left much more of an impression to me. Given the fact that both
cars cost about the same, frankly I'm not surprised that the SVO/XR4ti never
really was a hit here.
... what did I end up buying? Well, that was when I ended up
picking up a used quattro turbo coupe (for not that much less than the going
price of the Rustangs I must admit ... but I've never looked back ... except
at the Rustangs ... :)

PS ... I find it quite amusing to see the waving thread appear here
... it usually is more prevalent on the motorcycle lists. The thread
usually starts out asking why folks on Harleys never wave, then
acknowledging that in fact some do and some non-Harleys don't ... ending
with the thought that perhaps the other person didn't wave because they were
enjoying themselves so much that they just happened to miss you. While I
frequently wave while riding ... even to Harleys; I must bow my head and
admit that unless I'm driving the QTC and happen to see someone else in one
or another sporty Audi I'm not too likely to wave ...
