Hi Phil,
It was a 2.6 L V6 and my first car. First car I modified with header pipes
and turbo mufflers after the stock system rusted out (OEM had FIVE mufflers
on it).  Later years used a 2.8 L V6, but everyone knows the 2.6 was the
engine to have.  There were lots of aftermarket goodies like turbos and
whole books dedicated to performance mods.  Wish I could put that engine in
the 4kq, but alas, in California that conversion is illegal :(
