V8Q: Propshaft noise ...

Lately I've been noticing a bit of noise coming from underneath the car (91
v8q/5-speed) ... it started as a regular click, click, click sound when
reversing and then it started making noise going forward. I crawled up
under there this afternoon and it seems as though it is a simple problem
where the front of the propshaft is in close proximity to a heat shield that
protects the front CVJ from the cat mounted beneath it. My suspicion is
that the true source of the problem is the tranny mounts need to be
replaced, but I thought I'd ask around for any BTDT on other possible
problems. Let me tell you this prop shaft is pretty well buried behind
exhaust pipes and heat shields ... I can't even see the area around the
carrier bearing/u-joint and it looks like I'd have to drop some of the
exhaust system and the shield to be able to see it.

TIA!

BTW, I think I saw my dream drivetrain on the CD ... apparently somewhere
there was a v8q with a 4.2l v8 and a 6-speed tranny ...
