Steering column bearing replacement?

Happy Easter, guys. I need to replace my steering column bearing, I think it
just got worn out from the many years of driving on bad dirt roads, with
lots of washboard hills. The Bentley says that I need some special tools to
do that, but there is probably a way to get around that. I wondered if there
is someone on the list who can give me some pointers for this project. I
have 181K mi. on the car, it is a daily driver, and goes into very rough
places, because my wife is a hospice social worker and visits the people in
the country at their homes. We have had it for about 9 years now, and like
to keep it for many years to come. We are even thinking of getting it
painted at Maaco, pearl 3 coats  $1500.00.......Thanks, Martin `86 5KCSTQ
