Re: Sunroof is out. (LOTS of "remove"....)

<< I'd appreciate any pointers w/r/t a safe removal & reinstallation of the
sunroof itself (hopefully leaving the track in place). I find bentley
incomprehensible on the subject.>>

The following assumes a dead sunroof motor in a 5K (type 44 body.)

Inside the car:
1) Remove the courtesy light beside the sunroof switch.
2) Remove one phillips screw that holds the switch/light console in place.
3) Remove the switch/light console unplugging wires as needed.
4) Use the hex key (concelaed in the console) to push the sunroof back about
6 inches.
5) Remove the 10mm bolt holding the ground wire for the motor.
6) Remove three phillips screw that hold the motor in place. (Two towards the
back seat, one towards the windshield side.
7) Catch motor as it falls out.

>From the outside:
8) Remove the phillips screws that retain the pop-up wind deflector.
9) Remove the other phillips screws that you can see holding the track in
place.
10) Slide the sunroof all the way back. (Should be able to push it with your
hand.)
11) Remove the two phillips screws at the back of the track.
12) Make sure the track is loose by lifting upward, gently. If not, find the
screw(s) you missed and remove.
13) Pull the sunroof forward to the almost closed position.
14) Gently pry upward and forward on the track/sunroof. It should slide out
with a little encouragement (encouragement should NOT be given with a
hammer....)

Wanna guess the reassembly instruction? :-)
(HINT - someone on the list already posted it today.)

At least that's how we do it in Bucksnort.
Later.
