On more than one occasion, I've had to remove bolts that were so
tight, whatever mass I was trying to lever against, would move too.

What sometimes works, while applying force in the direction of
loosening the fastener, is to make several sharp blows in that
same direction with a ballpein hammer. Don't use a deadweight
mallet, tho, as those don't transmit the force quickly and
evenly enough.

In the case of the crank bolt, you may need a small sledge, and
woe unto the person who will hold the breaker bar during these
blows (lots of vibration).
