RE: Blau's Wagon Rear Struts
Hi Steve -- I have these on my 89 200 tqw. They worked out well.
I had actually purchased some adjustable red Konis (still have them and they
are for sale --they fit type 44 sedans and wagons-- something like 86-90
;-), but I needed springs, too (I had a bent spring). However, I didn't have
time to decide what springs I wanted, order them, then attempt the lengthy
install before a trip I heading off to, so I just went with the Blau setup.
Yes, they are more expensive than the regular strut inserts, but they make
up for it by being easy. I have NO suspension installation experience, yet I
was able to install these (both sides) in about a 1.5 hours (and that was
moving slow. -- BTW, the struts unbolt from bottom of the car -- I spent
about 30 minutes tearing apart the interior looking for the top of the strut
bolts). If I had done the Koni/aftermarket spring combo, I would have been
looking at least a full day of my labor (or some cash to have someone else
do it). Sure the Koni/spring performance would be superior, but this isn't a
track car. It's more for commuting and ski/bike/kayak trip transportation.
Performance of the Blau setup seems fine -- definitely better than my blown
OEM shocks and bent spring, but not what I'd call a high-performance ride.
Good luck,
Tim
