lubes & fixes (starter)

Hello all!

I was cleaning up my spark plug wire end and feal really dumb because I
mixed up two of the wires and when I tried to start the car it really taxed
out the starter...
Well I realized this and luckily switched them back and the car ran fine...
except the starter mad a whole lot more noise ('86 4kq)....
well today, about 1 week later it finally failed luckily it didn't take
any flywheel teeth with it it just got noiser until finally it would NOT
engage but just giv e a spin (hard to describe)....
Well The starter on my '84 coupe was my only alternative as my checking account
could not afford a new starter and the coupe is a parts car anyways...
I was leary of doing this but did not like push starting the car by myself...
The starter on the coupe I had recalled as being noisy also....
Well I pulled out the only spray lube I had and lubed up the gear and shaft
really well and spun the starter and lubed it as well with it engaged...
(off of the car of course) I used this stuff I got @ Walmart called
Tech 2000 $.89 USD I believe... from memory just bought the stuff so my
horn contact on the steering wheel would quit squeeking....
One little shot fixed that BTW....
Anyways back to the point when I installed the starter on my 4kq it was
so amazingly quiet and healthy sounding that it amazed me!!!
I wish I had an audio recording of it now....
it is the quietest starter I have ever hear on any i-5....

Not a salesman and usual disclaimers...
Just those of you with starters that you sound loud try it....
it took me 1/2 hour to R&R it with the car still hot.... (was in a hurry as
usual)
I am DEFINATELY a satisfied customer with this stuff and have actually been
re-starting the car just to listen to how good and strong it now sounds...

HTH's someone!!
I would recommend this to anyone with the original starter as preventive maint..

and please no flames on the cross-wiring... Everyone screws up once in a while
that's why there's erasers on pencils right???

Allright I'm rambling...
goodnight!
