Coupe Lower Trim Piece

Well its time to find the right trim piece that runs along the bottom of the
car. I need the one that goes from the back on the front wheel to the center
or so of the car. My CV joint broke a few weeks ago and ripped part of it
off.. the part where it protected the bottom of the wheel well is starting
to show some surface rust and I don't want it to go any farther. What should
I do about the rust? I was thinking sanding it down, but then won't I need
to put some sort of protectant on it so it won't rust again when water geta
down there?? Any ideas?
