RE: Thermostat/Cooling problems '92 100--Fixed

For those interested in my recent cooling problems, I replaced the
thermostat this weekend.
A very special thank you to Craig for the scanned images from the repair
manual. My AllData CD which was touted as having everthing from bently on
it, has serious omissions. I will be contacting AllData this week.

Comments on the project: the housing is a PITA to get out from under the
t-belt. For the installation I turned the engine so that a little slack was
available in the t-belt near the thermostat and was just able to get the
housing over the thermostat with much effort. The t-belt is seriously close
and I don't have the proper tools yet to deal with t-belt r/r, otherwise I
would have just taken it out of the way. I then ran the engine and
rechecked the t-belt for proper tension. The old thermostat was busted.
Kind of odd, I haven't seen one bust the strap thingy on the inlet side.
Went out for a test run lastnight and found no problems. Temp gauge is
back where it should be. I just love how 90mph comes up and there is so
much throttle left. At that speed, I still feel like I'm going slow.

Thank you to all who responded to my post!

Whoever it was that said "Audi owner by choice, Audi mechanic by necessity"
(or something like that) was right.

Take care
