re:96A4 cracked windshield

I have a 97 and my windshield cracked from the bottom
of the windshield somewhere around the middle of the
passenger side wiper blade.

The service manager looked at the crack to determine
if it should be a warranty issue and found a tiny nick
possibly caused by a flying grain of sand and
determined that it was not a warranty issue.  $400
later I got a *nice* wavy distorted windshield from a
windshield place and had them put it in.

These things are REALLY thin.
