My cherished '66 Corvair Corsa that has resided mostly under cover in my
garage since the fall of '72 had Dot 5 bought for it in the '70s and
installed in the '80s when I went through the braking system and replaced
some tubing. As I recall, in the early '70s, DoT 5 was promoted as having
higher temperature performance than the extant DoT 4 brake fluid of its day,
and I do not recall hearing then that its principal value was in its
non-hygroscopicity. How times change.
