RE: new survey - please try this out
... my opinion on this is that one major impetus for the model specific
lists is to allow discussions related to model specific problem solving. In
many cases, especially with an older model like a qtc, there is already a
lot of BTDT it is just not that easy to access. Another way to deal with
this sort of issue is to provide a better way for interested people to be
able to pick up the BTDT experience without having to post to a list and
have people answer the same question every so often. The problem with a
segmented e-mail list structure is that if you have an interest or
informative post that could affect multiple sublists ... you would need to
scrubside and post to multiple lists ... which would compound the BW problem
IMO. Given the fact that there is so much overlap between the models over
the years makes it difficult as well. The immediately apparent solution is
the use of WWW pages. Dan is very familiar with the Internet BMW Riders
mail list/website ... IMO this is an excellent model for what we should be
doing. Check out www.ibmwr.org to see how things are done there. It does
mean that there will need to be involvement of others to make the whole
thing work ... I would not expct Dan to be responsible for everything! From
the repeated posts on the subject in the past I know that there are a whole
bunch of qlisters [I think that term is not going to go away after the list
changes :] who have offered to help. Another source for a good model is the
"porschefans" lists/site. In their case they do have several e-mail lists
devoted to individual models ... but I think that may be a necessary evil
based on the sheer number of scrubsiders.
On a side note ... the "porschefans" lists recently changed to
"www.rennlist.org" due to pressure from Porsche ... I certainly hope this
does not happen to the "audifans" as well ... especially given all of the
build up that it has gotten ...
