RE: strut mount replacement: mandatory?
YES, YES, YES.
If you dont you'll most likely be replacing them in a year or two
anyhow. Definately worth the money to save you trouble later. If you can
afford it the blue ones (ur-q???) are supposed to be much stronger but I
just used normal $15 ones on all 4 corners and no problems so far but only
20,000 miles so far.

I am getting ready to replace the struts in my 4kq with
Boge Turbo Gas all around, and I was curious if folks
(other than a greedy shop) recommend replacing the upper
strut mount at the same time, regardless of symptoms or
signs of wear. I intend to get stops, boots, and bushings
at the same time as the struts, but I wasn't sure if I
should go all the way and get mounts too. I'm keeping the
stock springs, by the way.
