Check the battery connections for corrosion and tightness. If OK, crawl
under the car and check the connections on the starter and solenoid for the
same. If these look OK (and they should on a '96), pull the starter and
bench test the solenoid and the starter motor. You may have a weak solenoid,
bad internal solenoid contacts, or a bad starter motor. It could also be bad
wiring (unlikely) or a bad ignition switch (not enough current to fully
activate the solenoid). All conditions which are abnormal for a newer car,
but anything is possible!
