Thanks Geoff, Dan and others.
For the record - the camera is a Panasonic Card Shot NV DC1000.
Its X x Y dimensions are the same as a credit card - Z is about 8mm.
Thus it's small enough to go into the breast pocket of my overalls and
follow me around my various wrenching adventures. Let's see.
I was already aware of the autofocus being misled, e.g., by the tip of
the stud in the turbo picture. Exposure is also a real problem against
white backgrounds, but these are uncommon in engine bays.
It has two major disadvantages for general use - memory capacity is
fixed at 32 pictures of the quality I uploaded, and it _EATS_ batteries.
Literally. A new set of AA alkalines lasts for 20 pictures.
I don't yet understand how 'macro mode' works. The manual is far from
clear and some experimentation is called for - just as soon as the
NiCads have charged.
