Re: Ur-Q hydraulic head conversion questions...
Out of curiosity, I dropped the Ur-Q head off at the machine shop this
evening so he can jet-clean it for me ... looking at the MC v. WX chambers
more closely than I did this weekend, I could clearly see the differences
between them. There may not be much difference in volume -- again, I need to
double-check this more carefully once I get both heads back -- but there are
definitely differences in their shape. On the WX head, the section
surrounding the spark plug is raised up somewhat while the MC head is
essentially flat in the same place; on the other hand, the MC head isn't
sculpted nearly as deeply along the exhaust port side as on the WX chamber.
Assuming my measurements from this weekend hold up, though, it appears these
differences in shape may offset each other insofar as volume is concerned.
However, I did confirm that Scott DeWitt is indeed correct: The coolant
passage under the main water outlet will need to be welded up to reduce its
size to match that of the WX head. Although the head gasket I have does
cover up the extra area, there's not enough material on the block underneath
to support it properly ... oh, well.
More details as work continues...
