a full report
first of all, what the hell does the "aux relay" do?
anyway. last things first. mike and i worked all
night on our urq's, he's still under his plumbing
in seperate diff lock lines. the last thing i did,
what the hell, was to find out what the mystrey
vacuum line rod added with my last order was for.
i located three lengths, all quite ancient and
frayed. two of them connect to plastic nubs just
in front of the main ground, and by the looks
(and results!) they go to the ecu. sensors.
anyway after a sore back and accidentally disconnecting
tons of other hoses, dropping clamps deep into
the engine bay, i replaced them.
and, as i had only barely deemed it safe to theorize,
all elements of 4k cutout are gone. yeah i have said
it befor, and we'll see, but hey, there it is. i
ran 'im up to 5k on the way home, and besides an
odd ruuussssshhhhhh from the center console (vacuum?
i replaced a bunch of the diff-lock vacuum bits
in there too) it was *good*.
anyway, sad news: one of my h4's has been broken.
still functions but the lens has a quarter-sized
hole in it. gah.
i went in to attack the defunct power windows and
clean up the clusterfuck behind the center console.
never mind that i hadn't checked the 'spare" fuses.
got that stuff all cleaned up, my radio now gets
actual reception, and it turns out that by testing
out the lighter i fried the 25amp "spare" fuse.
window sfunction, lighter has been disconnected from
inside the console as i gave up smoking 17 months
ago.
pulled out the center vents to finally get at the
leaves and pine needles that send small fragments
into the car every so often, and maybe see for myself
why there is always some cold air. the later problem
was that the little loop-thing that mates with the
end of the vent lever was only a little stick,
having lost it's other half of loop. the surviving
loop lasted another two minutes or so.
anyway, i'll need a new vent flap, which i am sure
will cost me.
next to tell is the washer-wiper lever. a pull on
it would yeild neither. i took apart the column,
and figured out it's just one bit of metal not
properly meeting another, and i have ideas to fix
it. in the process of testing it i blew the fuse
and neither mike nor i have any spares *blush*.
he's going to be getting some tomorrow as he
presents linda with our street sign at carlsen
(don't forget the fuses mike). anyway whe i put
it all back together again i had no high-beams
nor headlights, but thank bob for the dim running
lights that go on in the h4's, which don't iluminate
really at all but in the city who cares. it was
enough to run to safeway to buy and cook up some
frozen dinners at 2am. anyway later i took it
apart, certain pieces not lined up, case closed,
fuse still blown, no wipers *at all*.
i think that's about it for fixes. not a bad night,
really, and i am almost thinking heck, why do i
need to drop $5k on an mc motor? then i come to
my senses and recall how *all* of the wx's out there
crack heads, all of them will develop 4k cutout
someday again, the leaks, all the cracked, rotting
rubber hoses, how i need a chip still... all that's
gonna add up to $5k anyway.
also, why is my fuel pump relay not there, but a
very cleanly (as in, machined) bent bit of copper
is jumping between a couple of the blade slots?
and, as i said, what the heck is the aux relay?
why does it click when i turn on the high beams,
why does leaving it out make the temp light blink
and click another relay in the glove compartment?
why are there relays in my glove compartment in
the first place? and just who *is* eric cartman's
father?
anyway, goodnight, and remember: as i type this,
it is 4:20, 4/20. semper fi.
