4Kq power windows & locks going south

Hi...

My first message to the list after lurking for a week.
I have an '85 4000s quattro with 160k miles on it, and it's still running
pretty strong. I don't want to get rid of it, but I might if I find a
'90s 90 quattro that I can afford!

But, the windows...they are driving me crazy! The front power windows are
squeaky and slow. Sometimes they stick down, especially if I'm in a hurry
to park and get to a meeting or something. One of the rear power windows
doesn't operate from the front console switch, though the switch on the
door works. The opposite rear window works beautifully. The sunroof is
getting slow, and has failed to close completely on a couple occasions.

Any Ideas about how to best approach this problem? I would just take it
and get the motors replaced, but my mechanic, bless his soul, he's great
but expensive. I think I have the mechanical skills to do the operation.
I just need to find a decent value on the motors, or any parts that are
needed.

As a side note, the power locks broke about a year ago, and I had a BMW
mechanic try and fix it, but botched it, screwed up my interior door panel
and the locks are still dead. They though that the locking pump was under
the back seat!

I wanna fix all the power stuff, because it's a cool car, but with broken
cool stuff, it's less cool, dig? It's especially less valuable as such.

Any advice is Mucho Superioso!

thanks,
trey
