Heh, there are such things...but they're not where you would expect.
Meet a couple Massachusetts State Troopers at one of the arrival
areas. They got a little overzealous with "protecting" the terminal
areas from "the bombing threat"...it used to be that one very irate
statie would show up at your window within 30 seconds of stopping
your car in the pickup circle, and start screaming at you to move
your car or he/she would arrest you etc. They would even park a
cruiser, 24 hours a day, in the circle, lights blinking furiously,
just to give the place that "war zone" look. All the while, cabs are
allowed to sit there. God forbid one of them should have a bomb
inside.
Massport(the organization that oversees several airports, the harbor,
etc) received complaints from lots of very upset(and very, very
angry) motorists and tourists...it spawned a media frenzy, and
Massport basically ended up telling the troopers to chill out in a
major way.
Of course, this is the same airport where some poor woman(who worked
at the airport) was murdered and left in the trunk of her car for a
couple months(parked -at- the airport) before someone noticed, hmm,
her car was there but she never showed up for work, hmm, we're
talking real geniuses here... They still don't know who did
it(suspicions abound that a co-worker did it, because she filed some
sort of complaint or reported her co-workers for something, I think.)
Yep, gotta protect those terminals from all those imaginary bombs
that imaginary certain-ethnic-groups were planting everywhere. God
forbid someone should murder someone else right on the airport
property...
