RE: v1 saves the day

From: Dan Simoes <dans>
I was running late last night after Bob Damato and friends popped
by to see the 85 4kq my BIL is selling, and was tooling down the
parkway.
The V1 laser alert goes off, so I jammed on the brakes, and all
100lbs
or so of junk in my hatch (seats down) came sliding forward into me!
It was worth it though, as I had shed enough speed to the point
where
when clocked, I was legal (there were cars ahead of me).

Last month I was transporting some old junk to the local dump. To make one
journey of it, I piled up the Avant pretty high and put some chipboard
sheets on the top. At the time I thought "I should tie those down", but
didn't. I drove very slowly so that the junk wouldn't slide around, and
everything was fine until some idiot pulled out in front of me. I braked
heavily, but the chipboard didn't. On it's way to the front it first of all
struck me on the head, then it walloped the rear view mirror which
transferred all its energy into a point source on the windscreen resulting
in a spider's web of cracks in the glass.

The moral of the story folks is to tie everything down.

In my case, I escaped with a small bump on my head and had to pay the GBP50
excess to my insurance company.
