Parting Out '84 4KQ (and WTB: UrQ Ronals)
First: Kudo's to Dan for a great transition and his continued efforts on
our behalf!
Well, after a lackluster (90-150psi cold and dry) compression test and
the discovery of more rust than was immediately visible, I've decided to
get rid of the tired, nonrunning '84 4KQ. The odo shows 200k and I now
believe it.
The interior (brown cloth) is very good, as is the instrument cluster,
console, etc. Windows work great. The Ronal wheels are in sad shape (2
are warped and flat-spotted, all need refinishing... which I hate
because I prefer them to the wheels on my '86 4kQ), the springs appear
to be sagging, the rear diff is leaking fluid, and there's not a body
panel on the car really worth saving. Since I've not driven the car, I
don't know about the tranny.
Does anybody have any specific requests?
Unless I'm planning on saving a part as a spare for my '86 (sunroof
motor, a relay or two, starter, etc) then I'll sell anything pretty
cheap (directly dependent on the labor required to remove and ship it).
(The interior is about the only thing which might help me recoup some of
my investment!) In fact, once I'm finished with the few things I want,
someone could come and take the car for free. (Southeast WI)
The good news? My UrQ's back on SP8000's for the summer!!! This means
I have a set of 5KQ soccer ball wheels (15x6, 5x112) with 205/60/15
Eagle GW unidirectional snows (the excellent European kind) which have
been used for 3 seasons or so (but still have decent tread left) which
I'd sell for $200 OBO. (From the wear I've experienced in running them
for two seasons, I'd guess they have another 2 seasons left.)
Finally, I'm in the market for a set of UrQ Ronals (15x6) cosmetics
unimportant to use for snows next winter. Would also consider cheap
Fuchs ;-).
Willing to wheel and deal on all the above (pun intended!)

PS: a very clean V8Q (auto) is now for sale again here in town. Asking
price is about $10k, down from $12k last spring (was stored over the
winter). I'll investigate more thoroughly for anyone interested.
