I'm pretty happy with a couple of 5-1/4" JBL's that I dropped
into the holes left when I removed the stock rear speakers. I
have 6-1/2" JBL's in the front doors and seem to get better
bass from the rear, probably due to the larger volume of the
"enclosure". I picked up another pair of 5-1/4" JBL's when
the local Best Buy did a closeout. Haven't decided whether
to install them yet since I may trade up to a 80 or 90 and
give the 4000 to my kid. Unless you are really into booming
bass, you can get pretty good results by just installing a
bigger amp. I am using a 4 channel Blaupunkt CD player with
no extra amp and I think it's perfectly adequate. I have
enough tinnitus already, thank you. Too many ZZ Top concerts.

If you are really determined to build a subwoofer box, you
might be able to build one that drops into the space
between the rear seat cushion and the rear window and
vent it into the trunk via the holes that are already
there. You could fit a pair of 8" woofers into it if
you do it just right. 6X9's would be easier and
cheaper. Cover it in grey indoor/outdoor carpet and
it won't be that obvious.

Personally, I think multiple 5-1/4's (4 or 6) with a bigger amp
would be the easiest solution and you wouldn't lose more
space in a trunk that's already pretty marginal. Let us
know what you end up doing.
