When I put an aftermarket tape deck into my 5kq, the front door
speakers couldn't handle any power at all and distorted at
highway listening levels.  I had some Sony 5 1/4" coaxial
speakers and they fit nicely when surface mounted.  No more
distortion, but still hardly any bass response from either the
front or the rear.  I would have messed around with rear/trunk
speakers if I had kept the car; the front gave great midrange
and treble, though, with the Sonys in the doors.

If you want a place that will give you a lot of brand name
options for upgrading a specific car, I'd suggest Crutchfield.
