RE: $300 to change transmission fluid?

I don't know if this is an acceptable price or not, it seems a bit high but
I don't know what they include for the money.
I do know that during 1995 model year production they changed fluid type for
the automatic transmission. As of 7/95 production they when to "VW-ATF G 052
162" a "Colorless-yellow" fluid. How it can be colorless and yellow I'm not
sure but that is what the manual says. My understanding is the it is
synthetic but I don't have any documentation to support that.
It is backward compatible and Audi is suggesting that this should be the
only fluid the dealer uses.
Call the dealer parts department and get prices for 3 liters of the special
fluid, the transmission pan gasket and a transmission filter and see how
much of your estimate is left for labor. This assumes they are dropping the
pan and changing the filter.
The job is not really difficult but is messy and under the middle of the
car. I spent 18 year in a shop earning my living working on these cars. I
would pay someone to do it, rather than lye on my back under a car on stands
or ramps while I dosed my hair in ATF while 90% of the ATF poured on to the
ground and the rest when in my drain pan. I guess I'm getting old, there was
a time I would not even think of paying some one else to do work I could do.

Good luck

I was just quoted $300 to change the automatic transmission fluid on
my 95 A6 by the dealer. Is this price normal or can I get it
replaced
	cheaper?

If they all charge this much, can this be a DIY? Anybody done it
themselves?
	Experiences?

	Thanks
