Legally speaking, the burden is on Audi to prove the modification caused the
failure. Realistically speaking, Audi and/or the dealer is going to give
you
hell on this if they find out you chipped it. The fact is that the waste
gate
rod fails a lot on non-chipped cars so it probably wasn't the chip. I'd
dechip
it if possible and bring it to the dealer for repair.
As for chipped engines wearing faster than non-chipped, the 1.8T *was*
designed for more power and this is evident in other countries where 180HP
is either the norm or a dealer installed option. I'm sure the engine would
wear out faster at a higher output level but the difference is probably
statistically insignificant.
