RE: oil filter removal on 1.8T
... I sent a private response yesterday as well ... I'm not familiar with
the oil filter position on the 1.8T, but I have had some hard to remove
filters. One time on the urq I neglected the filter change interval, and
the rubber seal vulcanized itself to the mounting flange! I tried every
tool I had ... even a screwdriver through the housing didn't work.
Eventually I was left with only the base of the filter clinging tenaciously
to the mounting flange. I ended up taking the new filter to a tool store
and finding a pin wrench that fit into the adjacent holes ... which did the
trick.
Other than that one time I've had great success with the Hazet cap wrench
that I have. It works on all the cars and is absolutely required to replace
the filter on the k1! In any event, one time I happened across the website
below ...
http://www.automotivetool.com/
They have a tool that looks like a standard Hazet wrench with 3 drilled and
tapped holes into which screws can be driven to attach the filter. I've
been tempted to do this same mod to the wrench I already have ...
HTH!
