Re: 95 A6 with a dimly lit odometer.....

I don't know what the problem would be, but I took apart my 95 A6 dash this
weekend to replace the outside temperature gauge bulb and it wasn't too bad.
You need to remove the two screws holding the steering wheel cover on (the
long plastic piece that runs under the gauges), then remove the three screws
that hold the dash in. After that, you can just pull the instrument cluster
out and see if you can figure out the problem. I extended my steering wheel
all the way out and in the lowest position and managed to pull the cluster
out pretty far to be able to look behind it.

If you do have a bulb problem, pray that it is one of the easily replaceable
screw-in type bulbs. For the outside temperature gauge bulb, I had to
remove the temp unit from the cluster, disassemble it, and then solder in a
small light bulb directly on the circuit board. It was fairly nerve
wracking. Being that the odometer is also a digital display, I would worry
that it is similar to the outside temp unit. Good luck!
