This may not relate to your problem, but just in case: I owned an '89
100Q, and twice during that time I had episodes of fluctuating voltage
readout and output (the lights would pulse in intensity at idle or
sometimes above). I pulled the alternator brushes - they looked fine,
but I noticed a pair of contacts that had a buildup of corrosion. The
matching surfaces on the diode plate also showed this. I sanded all
those surfaces, this fixed that particular problem for me. FWIW. Then
again, it may simply be your battery going away.
