One of the things I've learned after being a relatively active member of the
Internet community for the past 5 or 6 years is that it is VERY easy to be
misinterpreted (or to misinterpret someone else) via email.  Let's face it,
there are very few people who can communicate their feelings very well in
writing...even fewer can do it effectively in the casual, 'on-the-fly'
environment that exemplifies today's email culture.  To make matters worse,
one has the ability to type out a scathing response and, *poof*, send it off
instantaneously.  I've made a habit of sitting on anything that strikes me
as offensive until I've read it a few times.   Even if the message is
clearly offensive, the best thing is just to ignore it....for all you know,
some 10-year-old kid sent it!
