I doubt it. I don't know about the attribution to billg, but the quote
was first used around a quarter of a century ago in an advert (I've
long since forgotten for whom) than appeared in Datamation.
Remember when that used to be a great magazine?
Anyway - I think the original said: "If the automobile industry had
achieved what the computer industry has managed, a Rolls Royce would
cost $25 and get 10,000 miles to a gallon."
It sounds to me as if the industry under billg has gone backwards, not
forwards. But this is no surprise: the computers I used in the early
1970s were fully automated - but this one needs a trained monkey sitting
in front of it to click something every four seconds.
