fuba stuff and CC gearbox for flaps - 87/5kq
Hello Audifans
I would like to thank Tony Lum, David Ritter and Jan
Pinkowish for pointing me in the right direction on the
venerable fuba (pn 811 035 509) power mod. To make is
simple, Raul Pla - raul@antennaworld.com). I'm getting the
ring gear and clutch from him for $17US plus shipping $4US.
Good deal. After hearing that the drive shaft gets some
play in it over time as the nylon plate wears causing the
ultimate ring gear strip (this is much better than strip
joints), I figured why not bush the shaft with brass. I
thought this might be hard to do because the shaft is
tapered, so I took it over to a friend who happens to be a
clock repairman (calls himself an horologist...no
wait...he's a good guy, very few of those left around
here). "Sure" he says..."no problem." Took him five
minutes. Course he HAS all the tools necessary. Reamers
and such. Simple stuff, hand tools.
So we had some time on our hands. Got the geetars out,
wailed away a bit until we could hear the neighbours
cussing...so I figured it's time to bring out the CC
motor/gearbox piece of crap (the gears on mine are...you
guessed it). He peers at it through his magnified glasses
and says "nope, can't build that up...but if you give me a
week I can mold some new gears. Make 'em out of zinc."
What he means by a week is foolin' around after he gets home
from work.
I need one of these. Sure, I can reach over and slide the
bowden cable this way and that, get a similar effect, but I
would rather just button it up in good working order. On
mine, the bottom two gears are stripped, and I bet others
are the same. Of course, the simple thing is to go to a
junk yard and try and find a replacement...nada in my part
of the world. Been looking for eight months.
Anyone interested in getting Dr.Clock to make up some
gears? I asked him about this and he said "maybe we should
make up some gears for yours first." On the other hand, if
anyone has the gear assembly in working condition for
reasonable bux, I'm your man. I have more than three things
that don't work...on my Owdie.
Cheers!
Geo
