I just finally registered my car with the state of Indiana,
having lived here and been insured in Indiana with Erie
insurance since last autumn - the DMV employee noted that the
VIN on the insurance card was not quite the one from my car.
The VIN on the insurance card was garbage and should not have
worked for any Audi, so it seems unlikely they did much of a
search. We have the VIN corrected with Erie now, but I wonder
what would have happened if I had totaled the car with the VIN
of record different than the correct one on the car?
