stereo
way back in the '60's when stereo was first coming to the fore, the
manufacturers devised all kinds of meaningless ways to measure power in the
firm belief that "bigger is better" one the measurements was called
"instantaneous peak power" this was the microsecond moment of discharge of
the biggest capacitor that they could hook up to the power supply and could
yield fantastic wattages from the most innocuous amp...distortion was never
considered. as i was in the business at that time we relied on rms power
ratings combined with distortion figures across the band. as the technology
improved there were more speakers with burnt out voice coils being seen...i
guess huw could really address that issue.
