My battery is in my trunk, not in a box, but on a battery plate with a
hold down clamp. I would suggest larger than 4 gauge. 4 is good for a
continuous draw of 70 amps (depending on temp rating of the insulation)
but the voltage drop is significant when you turn on a heavy load, and
you'll see things "dim" appreciabely. I would recommend nothing smaller
than a 1 for that distance. For both the battery and ground side. I
used a 6 ga jumper from the neg terminal to the trunk floor, and i
grounded the battery at the engine block, near the starter with another
6 gauge going from the engine to the front (body) of the car for good
equalization.
