RE: tranny fluid change on the V8 4.2

The VAG 1551 or 1552 is used to measure the fluid temperature. The fluid
level is temperature dependent and can only be checked between 35 and 45
degrees Celsius. On vehicles without a dipstick tube there is a plug in the
transmission pan the is removed and the level is correct if fluid slowly
leaks out. The dipstick tube was discontinued approx. 5/94 production. For
A6 models produced after 7/95 DO NOT use Dexron ATF they ONLY use VW/Audi
fluid G 052 162. I do not know the change over dates for other models. The
VW/Audi fluid G 052 162 is compatible in the earlier vehicles.

Thanks

Can't speak for the V8, but the newer A6's use the VAG 1551
to check the fluid level and temperature. Starting in '95,
they
don't even HAVE dipsticks any more :-(
