RE: New A6

with regard to the v8 option in the a6, there appears to be an alternative
available to punters with a little spare loot...

the latest audi driver has a test of an s8 fitted with a twin turbo v8 by
honenster. apparently honenster has a "normal" v8tt for a8's which gives
405hp and 502lb ft of torque, but this chappie (who had a honester 380hp
200qt before) wanted more. so they developed a 480hp@5700 and 620lb ft
(!!!) @2840rpm tt v8 using the s8 engine. it runs a compression ratio of
9.6:1 apparently. new pistons, manifolds and 2 kkk blowers. and all going
through the standard audi 6-speed 01e tranny apparently. thats got to be
one strong gearbox. and no, the auto can't handle the torque....

while the normal honester v8tt in an a8 gives 175mph top speed and 4.1 0-60
(as tested by auto sport und motor apparently), the new one is tipped for
190mph and has a 3.8sec 0-60. audi driver took the car to 150mph on the
autobahn, where it was still going strong.

a very tasteful conversion with no badges at all, not even the s8 badge. a
slim boot-lid spoiler and a tasteful front air-dam with more cooling, and
thats it.

i imagine that, with all that low-down torque, one would see 3rd gear rather
quickly at the traffic lights :-)

no mention of the price though. i guess that if you need to ask, you can't
afford it...

it is, i guess, a taster to the forthcoming v8tt for the s6 and s8, or is
that rs6 and rs8???

Now you're comparing apples and oranges...I was talking about the Audi 4.2
V8. I highly doubt if the next S6 will have the 2.7 biturbo motor
anyway...remember, this is the same motor that is in the S4, which is less
powerful than the V8 in the A6 4.2. It would make more sense for it to be
equipped with the 4.2 biturbo, which should make it competitive with the new
M5.
