USA 20v turbos: Do you need a MAF Sensor?

The hot-wire MAF sensor on my '91 200q went out a few months back. By the
grace of a fellow q-enthusiast, my car has been living on borrowed
time--make that a borrowed MAF sensor. Time for a new one.

As any of you who have replaced one knows, these things are NOT cheap
(dealer list: $750). Buying from TPC or your local Bosch parts dealer can
be less than half that. But I've come across yet another (even lower $)
option: Have the unit rebuilt.

Through a turbo-Volvo source, I've located a company that rebuilds these
sensors for under $150. I'm guessing they do a lot more Volvo MAF sensors
since Volvo began using them in the mid-80s on their NA and turbo cars.
For the Audi unit, there is one challenge: he has not previously had
demand (we didn't know about him) for the particular unit used in our Audis
(VAG #034 133 471 K, Bosch #0 280 213 007, also used in '92-95 S4/S6) so
has not previously measured an operable sample of these sensors (necessary
in order to rebuild them).

SO...if there are two or three more of you out there with a car running in
limp-home mode (OK operation on light throttle, stumble and buck on more
throttle calling for boost), please contact me--if I can assemble enough
"demand" here, he'll invest in the purchase of a new sensor for
measurement/calibration purposes. Please respond direct:
