You don't have to be racing; left-foot braking is enough to cause a loss of 
assist after a few turns.  At least that's what happened in the '83 5k turbo 
I test-drove a few months ago (almost bought it as a daily-driver for my 
girlfriend, too, but we decided instead to look for a '70s vintage Mercedes 
... no luck as yet).

Duane Hale's 4kq had the 2Bennet turbo-conversion in it and they used a 
gigantic vacuum reservoir to store the extra vacuum.  For any kind of 
performance driving, the teeny-weeny OEM vacuum reservoir (it looks like 
three tennis balls glued together and hides behind the driver-side front 
fender) simply isn't big enough...
