Re: sparkplugs coming loose

Used to have a WMB 2002 with the loose spark plug problem (also of aluminum
head, cast iron block). The plug (only one) would work its way loose over the
course of a month or so and on one occasion blew out and fell off the spark
plug connector. I was out in the boondocks on an Interstate highway at about
1:00 am. I limped to the nearest exit and found a no-name gas station/auto
repair shop with dead cars in the back, took a plug from a likely candidate,
left a note and a couple of dollars stuck in the mail slot identifying myself
and what I had done (and why) and was back on the road a few minutes later.
At the next opportunity I shoved a small rag all the way in the plug hole so
that any "trash" I cleaned out of the threads could be recovered and cleaned
the threads with a thread cleaner (one of those screw-in types). Apparently
something was stuck in the threads near the business end of the spark plug.
After the cleaning and removing the rag (and some crud) The plug seemed to
seat deeper in the head and I never had the problem any more.
