Re: Plus definition

Switching tyre sizes within the same rim is not the definition of 'plus one'.
The 'Plus' concept refers to rim diameter (and the subsequent tyre change to
maintain oem overall W/T diameter) exclusively.

Secondly, a comparo of a 215/50 15 on a 15x8 to a 235-245/40 17 on a 17X7
would result in the same conclusion Dave E made. Bad comparo, IMO. A better
comparo would be swapping the 215 onto the RS2

Wheels and fitments and plus one have more to do with the weight and balance
of the vehicle than most other factors. By definition, if you want to really
get your quattro to handle the best, different sized rims and tyres would be
on front and rear. Taking the equal compromise, the test results are pretty
amazing. My 81 sciroccoo racer performed best (ganalyst calibrated) with
14in wheels, not 15's. My GLH turbo car performed better with 8.5 wheels vs
7.5 wheels with a 225/50-15 tyre, but a 16 reduced lap times.

That said, the portly quattros really should have 17's from the factory.
Some of the 80 series cars do best with 16's (tested audi 9020v NA), but
bottom line, the 15's are inexcusable.
