I was told by my tranny mech.(When I asked how I can prevent killing my 3 spd 
automa-sick) That downshifting in a Automactic is BAD for the tranny.  He 
said something like the transmission is not made to do that.  Its different 
from a manual.  Also said something like everything slams back in together 
when you apply the gas.  I wasn't paying too much attention, but I dont' 
downshift on hills anymore, even when towing. Well I guess YMMV.
(And now for the manitory Audi content, I love Audis and I got mine up to 1.7 
BAR now)
