A value "9" reported by CC diagnostic channel 1 merely means that there is
no coolant temp-sensor installed in your engine. Isn't any in my '89 100
either. I think they started putting these sensors in around '90- '91 (it's
in my '91 200 3B engine). So that should be a meaningless "fault", but I
can't imagine why it would go away. BTW this sensor is _not_ the
multifunction sensor nor the one on the radiator. It's used by the ecu for
engine warmup control.
As to the unrelenting heat: sounds like you've lost the vacuum connection
to your heater control valve located at the left rear of engine compartment
(no, your _other_ left*) and/or it's stuck in the full-hot position.
